Toxic or Organic Skin Care, Buyer Beware

Here’s a thought before you throw your money away, where is your money really going? 60 cents goes to the manufacturer and about 35-40 cents goes to the retailer this goes for everything. Manufacturers are paying for production, packaging, storage, and of course transportation. Which gas is over-priced. For about 20 cents they hire a marketer who will tell them the best way to market that $75 petrochemicals, synthetic fragrances and lets not forget preservatives! Then they hire movie stars and teenagers to promote the product. Ten cents goes towards pretty packaging, one,or two cents goes towards dull things and interest, twenty cents goes for salaries and admin costs. We know the retailer will pay their rent and design attractive displays to lute us into their shops and About forty cents pays the salary of the salespeople, and other staff members. So basically what it comes down to is that out of every dollar seven cents goes towards the ingredients, four will go to production and the rest into the pockets of professionals that don’t do anything to improve these products we so happily buy. How do I know this, business classes at college has helped me with this formula.

So Here we go lets take a fairly popular moisturizer that is for sensitive skin, we see the label has tons of humectant and film-forming agents that will not penetrate our skin. Although the cream is called fragrance free there are still some synthetic scents to hide the real scents of the ingredients, they usually are pretty stinky, there’s also a preservative added even though it is food grade it will help extend the life if this product. This is a decent formula , why? Because it does not contain any paraben preservatives, synthetic dyes or penetration enhancers, and it’s not too expensive. We know that any cosmetic with an healthy amount of active ingredients will not be cheap. Any good natural cosmetic products may be expensive and you are getting what you pay for, and skimping around the corners is not a good thing to do when it comes to our beautiful skin. If the product is too inexpensive watch out for cocamide DEA or synthetic jojoba oil. Remember that you can buy the cheap stuff but when it comes down to it quality ingredients is what you really want in your organic and natural skin care products and they are not cheap!

So when you are checking out the ingredients label of an organic moisturizer for sensitive skin, you will definitely notice natural ingredients such as aloe barbadensis leaf juice, jojoba esters, calendula extract, or squalene from olive, not shark liver, these will be at the beginning on the ingredients list. You may also see other ingredients such as Panax ginseng, licorice, white teas, or echinacea which will cost more. These good ingredients will have a higher concentration because they are organic and not commercially produced and do not need to rely on BAD chemicals. They don’t need to glossy layout or ad in a magazine because their reputation sells it, word of mouth is the best form of marketing for organic natural skin care products.

Always read your labels and if your questioning the ingredients don’t buy it research it to see if it safe then buy it or not depending on your results. We will have more information to help make you an Expert on organic and natural skin care products in my next article.
