Hi Everyone, Hope you all had a great weekend…it was a nice long weekend over here for me, I loved it!!! So today I’d like to talk a little bit about packaging, yes packaging. It is also an important part of the product and being environmentally aware. There are many companies that package their products in sustainable boxes and that is great. We know we do not keep those boxes our makeup comes in and all the junk that is inside the box. It all goes in the trash, and we’ve have just wasted about $4 on something no one sees but us and it went into the trash. CRAZINESS!!! So what can we all do to change this? We all know nothing will happen to the product if it’s not packaged with all the papers and more cardboard and plastic wrapping. It does survive. Chanel makeup gives away full sized samples that are packed in brown boxes and no one seems to mind, while the same product is sold in the department store will be 8 times heavier because of the packaging. WOW!! It doesn’t or shouldn’t matter what the package looks like as long it works and is organic and natural.
The overuse of packaging on products is something both synthetic ad organic companies are guilty of. There are many brands that are changing this terrible habit. Here are several that are environmentally aware and are doing good things regarding their packaging. REN which is UK based has gotten rid of their cardboard packaging totally, also they use recyclable pumps for their lotions and use shrink wrap in place of boxes. Canadian based Cargo is using for their lipsticks boxes that are corn based and have plant seeds in them, so all you do is soak then plant and you’ve just help put a little more oxygen on our planet. Pangea Organics also puts flower sees in their boxes so you can feel good about buying then plant you some pretty flowers. Suki Naturals uses glass and when they receive large shipments they recycle everything. Which totally helps our environment.
These companies are being aware that it is their product we buy not the packaging, while many are still lagging in this department. They feel that its all about packaging and looking pretty, many of these companies are synthetic brands. We know it takes about 450 years for a plastic bottle of shampoo to degrade in a landfill. It may end up in our oceans and some poor mammal, fish, creature ends up eating it and may be harmed. While a bottle made of soya and corn may take about 35-45 days to biodegrade it is still better than 450 years by far. It may take some time but I believe most organic natural skin care companies will realize that it is important for them to rethink their packaging. But in the mean time you now know of some companies that are aware and being aware is a great thing. and as always remember to READ YOUR LABELS…
