Part 3
This is part 3 in my series. I hope it has helped. I think that it is important to be aware of what we are doing to our bodies and making sure we treat it like a temple. So in this article I will be talking about scent and a couple of other items we need to be aware of. So here we go. So when we test a new product we generally use our hand to test it. We smell it first of all. At this particular moment we are like a glue sniffer, except its cosmetics we are sniffing, so the substances which make our cosmetics smell good are very similar to those that send addicts on their little binge, weird isn’t it? I thought so. It is important for us to use products that smell good and make us look prettier, which is totally understandable, these beauty products are making us look and feel better, so we think and so they say. This goes for people with sensitive skin also, they would choose a light scented lotion over a non-scented one, that was good for them, over a bad one. When we smell scents or odors a major process beings in our brain, which in turn trigger different reactions. We know our nose can distinguish hundreds of different smells even in tiny quantities.
So we must ask why is fragrance so important to us? Well firstly it triggers receptors in our nose, then it goes to our brain and then it decodes an emotion. These can range from happy to sad and everything in between, seriously. For the most part smelling something gives us a little information about a particular ingredient in that product. Then we may or may not spritz or rub ourselves with that smell. Same goes for food, especially if we eat organically, one burrito or scoop of bubble gum ice cream can be kill all the organic food we ate in a week. Chemicals once again they are BAD! So now we must be extra wary because many commercial products are containing synthetic scents. These companies re making “electronic noses” to help them make better scents. SO it will be almost impossible to tell the difference between real or synthetics. We know they can recreate almost everything known to man using synthetic scents such as leather, fresh grass, even soil, like dirt!
As each year passes these commercial companies are composing more and more complicated fragrances. All kinds of products are scented with a wide range of smells. Including baby products. For these companies to meet the needs of the consumers they have hundreds, if not more, of these chemicals being developed . There are more than 5,000 different types fo materials being used in fragrances, and approximately 1,300 have been tested for safety! Remember that these synthetic fragrances are used in micro doses and are programmed to turn our brains on. This in turn is creating new types of allergies and respiratory illnesses. Commercial manufacturers rarely release the ingredients of these toxic compositions. Why? Because they are considered secrets of that company.
We know that they use organically derived fragrance ingredients which can be used to enhance and enrich current compositions. Some of these can cause allergic reactions. They are citronellol, linalool, geraniol, farnesol, cinnamal, and eugenol. Can you beleive this. So always check they labels. There have been some studies showing that synthetic fragrances may contain carcinogenics, causing liver and bladder cancers. These synthetic scents can cause illnesses such as asthma, migraines, hyperactivity disorder, rashes, depression, cancer, diabetes, and even seizures. So we must beware of what types of scents we are using. Hopefully we are using organic and natural skin care products and cosmetics on our bodies and we know what is in them and that they will NOT cause us harm. So please once again READ your LABELS and use safe products and cosmetics.
